Description
Two of Hawaii’s favorite lei flowers are used in this delicate and irresistible twist lei. Freshly picked pakalana and pikake blossoms are carefully strung and twined together.

RELATED INFORMATION
The pakalana flower is native to India and China, but it thrives in the Hawaiian Islands. The plant is a member of the Asclepiadaceae or Milkweed family with a slender vine and woolly branches. The heart-like shape flower has five, pointed petals, that resemble a heart. About 0.5 inches in length, the blossoms are greenish-yellow in color and are often at times revealing their typical fluffy seeds.
The pikake flower, or Jasmine flower, was introduced to Hawaii in the 19th century. It was Princess Kaiulani’s favorite flower, the sweet smelling Arabian Jasmine, was so named “pikake” (peacock) because she was fond of both the flower and the bird.
