How to Care for Your Lei
Instructions for Hawaiian Lei Storage and Care
Upon receiving your Hawaii Flower Lei shipment, open the box immediately. Carefully unwrap each lei and inspect its condition. If you have any concerns upon seeing your lei, please contact us. Each of our beautiful fresh lei styles have slightly different care instructions. Exact care instructions for each lei will be listed on your packing slip. Please refer to your packing slip and follow the directions carefully.
Orchid Leis
Orchids love moisture! You’ll notice that your orchid leis are delivered wrapped in moistened paper. This allows them to stay hydrated throughout their journey from Hawaii. Upon receiving your orchid leis, spritz them with water, wrap them back up in the paper they came in, or your own paper towels, spritz the paper with water, then place in a large plastic bag or container. Place the bag or container in the refrigerator at approximately 54°F (12°C). A refrigerator that holds produce is perfect. It’s important that the refrigerator is not too cold, or the flowers will freeze.
Fragrant Leis
Fragrant leis are very delicate and should be touched as minimally as possible. The more a fragrant lei is handled, the faster it dies.Â
- Tuberose and Rosebud Leis:  Mist ever so slightly with water, place in a plastic bag or container in the refrigerator set to approximately 54°F (12°C).
- Ginger Lei: Sprinkle only the stems of the ginger lightly with water, place in a plastic bag or container in the refrigerator set to approximately 54°F (12°C).
- Pikake Lei: Keep completely dry, place in a sealed container or bag and refrigerate at approximately 54°F (12°C).
- Maile Lei: This is the exception to the fragrant lei rule! The maile vine comes from the wet Hawaiian rainforest, so it loves moisture. Mist generously with water, wrap lei in moist paper towel, place in plastic bag and refrigerate. Ideal temperature 54°F (12°C).
Ti Leaf Leis
Ti leaf leis are made with a process of freezing the leaves to soften them, therefore they hold a bit of moisture that may stain clothing. Please be mindful of this and take time to hang the lei to dry before wearing it if it’s still a bit damp. For storage, keep dry and place in a sealed bag or container until ready to use.
