Description
The petals of a red flower, either red rose petals, or the petals of the red Hawaiian torch ginger flower are used to accent the Micronesian-style Ginger Lei.

Length: Hangs about 14 inches from neck when worn (30 inches long before being tied).
CARE
Role carefully into a ball, sprinkle only the stems of the ginger lightly with water and refrigerate. Should be handled as little as possible.
RELATED INFORMATION
Red ginger was introduced to Hawaii as an ornamental plant around 1928, and is now “naturalized,” meaning that it is reproducing and spreading on its own outside of human cultivation. The “petals” of the red ginger flower are actually bracts, which protect the 1-inch-long white flowers. These petals lay over the white ginger blossoms in the Red Micro Ginger Lei.
Originally from the Himalayas region of Nepal and India, the White Ginger Lily was introduced to Hawaii by early settlers and has since been naturalized. It grows well in the Islands without harm to other species, and is a favorite fragrant flower lei in Hawaii.
