Pikake, or jasmine was a favorite flower of Princess Kaiulani, she named the flower after the Hawaiian name for Peacock, which she also adored. The Jasmine flower was introduced to Hawaii in the 19th century. It was Princess Kaiulani’s favorite flower, the sweet smelling Arabian Jasmine, was so named “pikake” (peacock) because she was fond of both the flower and the bird.
